Robert D. Brown

Title: Vice President, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering

Robert Brown is vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, effective January 1, 2012. He will serve as Ford Motor Company’s top environmental and safety officer reporting directly to Alan Mulally.
 
In this role, Brown is responsible for the company’s environment and safety strategy, policy and performance and assuring that Ford meets or exceeds all safety and environmental regulations worldwide.
 
Brown was previously vice president, Sustainability, Environment, and Safety Engineering, Ford of Europe. He has lead many programs and initiatives in environmental and safety regulations and compliance.
 
Since joining Ford as a compliance engineer in 1979, Brown has held a variety of leadership positions including serving as Ford’s environmental regulatory manager working in Washington D.C., assistant director in the company’s Automotive Safety Office and director of Vehicle Environmental Engineering.
 
Brown has served on the Board of Advisors UC-Riverside Center for Environmental Research and Technology, the Coordinating Research Council Board of Directors and Management Committee, the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Board of Directors and Executive Committee, EPA’s Mobile Source Technical Review Subcommittee, and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Mobile Source Committee and the Safety Policy Committee.
 
Community commitments include supporting the Ann Arbor Community Center, UM-Dearborn College of Engineering, the Salvation Army, Gleaners Food Bank, United Way, Wayne State University College of Engineering, the United Negro College Fund, and the USO.  Brown also coordinates funding raising activities for Ann Arbor area high school talent and scholarship award programs.
 
Brown holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a master’s of science degree in engineering from Wayne State University.
