AJ ALLMENDINGER PACES FORD AT PHOENIX IN SECOND RACE WITH MANUFACTURER
AJ Allmendinger, in just his second race since his No. 44 Richard Petty Motorsports changed manufactuers, led all Ford drivers with a 13th-place finish at Phoenix International Speedway on Sunday. Allmendinger, driving the Ford Drive one. Fusion, posted a 10-place finish at Texas the previous weekend. Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion, finished 14th, to remain in seventh place in the standings with just one race – the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend – remaining in the 2009 season. -
ERIK DARNELL PREPARES FOR SIXTH CAREER CUP START
Erik Darnell, driver of the No. 96 Valvoline Ford Fusion, will make the sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series of his career on Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway. It will be Darnell’s first career Cup start at PIR; he has two top-10 finishes in three career Nationwide Truck Series starts at the one-mile track. Darnell was 24th fastest during Saturday’s lone practice – weather cancelled the other one, and he says, as a young driver, he would’ve liked the extra track time. -
FORD RACING’S CHASE DRIVERS, GREG BIFFLE AND CARL EDWARDS, READY FOR PHOENIX
Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion, is in seventh place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with just two races remaining. Biffle has three top-10s in his last four Cup starts at Phoenix; he has three Nationwide Series victories at PIR – including one earlier this year. Biffle was fourth fastest in Friday’s practice session. Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion, is in 11th place in the standings heading into this weekend’s race at Phoenix. Edwards met with the media before Friday’s qualifying session. -
